The City of Lexington provides water and waste water services to its residents and the surrounding area. In 2023, the city opened its new state-of-the-art water treatment facility, which provides 1.5 million gallons of water to the community every day. Its design includes capacity to expand to meet increased future demand, and it relocates the city's water sourcing from the Missouri River to new wells drawing from underground reservoirs. The project was funded through a bond measure approved by the public.
In addition to its new treatment facility, Lexington has two water towers, including the 2012 600,000 gallon tower (photo below).
In 2024, the community will have the opportunity to approve a new bond measure to fund critical structural improvements and repairs to the existing wastewater plant, which cleans and filters wastewater before it depositing it in the Missouri River. These repairs are needed to ensure the wastewater has no negative effects on the delicate ecosystem of the river nor on any communities downstream of Lexington.
Lexington is a member of the Missouri One Call System. If you will be doing any construction or digging on your property be sure to call 1-800-DIG-RITE, prior to beginning your project. Missouri One Call will then contact all utility companies so that their lines can be clearly marked.
